Hello everyone! By popular demand I’m sharing today’s post on how to create outfits from the pieces in your capsule wardrobe. I hope you enjoy this look-book & get some fresh ideas ~ I discovered some “new” outfits myself!

I had my eye out for a couple tops that I could wear without layering during the hot summer months.
And as you may remember from my recent clothing post Minimizing Your Capsule Wardrobe that I had two cardigans on my list ~ one coral & one a buttery yellow. These four tops came from the thrift store back in February.
Also, I’ve been wanting to wear more dresses so another floral dress was on the list & I ordered a pretty purple & green dress online from Appleseed’s. Now let’s create outfits from my existing capsule!
Fashion Video Talk-through!
Creating Outfits in Your Capsule
This first look is fairly basic, comfy and a great starting place to build on. Since this top is drapey it looks better with a fitted skirt. Now to try something with a little more snap!

Pattern mixing is such fun!
For starters I’ve kept within the same color palette of black & white, but need something to give the outfit shape & tie it all together.

The charming cardigan fits the bill! The black cardigan is an obvious, classy choice & “safe” if you are new to pattern mixing. The burgundy cardi adds a dash of color & would look great with red heels!

Same tops, new look with a camel pencil skirt & different shoes! The black pencil skirt would add another two outfits as well. I love the versatility of the capsule wardrobe!

I’ve loved this pretty floral dress ~ it reminds me of wild violets. When I spotted this dress in the catalog I had a couple cardigans in mind to create two more options for styling this dress.

Both cardigans worked out perfectly & increase the versatility and usefulness of the new dress.
Versatility: Top Capsule Priority
Whether I’m building my capsule base, or adding fun accent pieces versatility carries the most weight in the decision process. I know if each piece is carefully, thoughtfully chose then getting dressed will be a breeze ~ and fun!
By carefully considering how each piece will work with my existing closet I know I’m adding value & not just “more” to the mix.

It was such fun to spot this cheery yellow cardi in the thrift store! This is a new color for me & I wanted to give it a try without investing a lot into a piece that might not have staying power.
Turns out I really like the yellow & felt really pretty in this outfit!

Bonus outfit! In styling pieces for this post I created this “new” outfit ~ I’ll be wearing this one soon! This is the beauty of a capsule wardrobe ~ well chosen pieces will make you outfits you didn’t even plan on!

Here are a couple completely different outfit combinations with the new top I found. Your creativity is your limit!

Lastly here are a couple options for the coral cardigan. Accessories & shoes can really change a look! By the way, a shoe capsule is just as versatile and useful ~ see my post on Buying Quality Shoes.
Thank you for joining me today as we created outfits from the basic pieces in a capsule wardrobe. I hope you found some useful & inspiring information.

Hey Joanna,
I’m thrilled you liked the video ~ we are having a blast putting them together! Do you have any other ideas for what you’d like to see in a video?
Love the video. Hadn’t seen it! Impressed with your ‘eye’ to put things together!
Hello Miss Lenda,
Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching!
Rachel,
This was delightful! Great job! I like the new pieces you added. The yellow and coral cardigans are great. I also agree that the cardigan did the trick in the pattern mixing. The dress is pretty by itself, but I really like the cardigan(s) with it. And…I think my favorite is the graphic tee outfit!!! That one is FUN!
More look books please. 😄💖
Robin
Hello Miss Robin,
Thank you! You are the expert in pattern mixing & I’m sure you could give me some great pointers! The graphic tee outfit was a “bonus” outfit since it was a brand “new” outfit mix for me & one I’ll be wearing soon.
For another look book what would you like to see? Specific combinations? One piece five ways? Let me know what sound most interesting to you.
Warmly,
Rachel
